Russ Manning Untitled Cowboy Comic Story Page Original Art (c. 1950s). Identified only by the artist's name and hometown address (reverse), this hard-charging action sequence patently dates from Manning's first decade as an unbilled utility illustrator at Dell Comics. There, he worked on such Western titles as Johnny Mack Brown, Rex Allen, and The Flying A's Range Rider (a likely resemblance, given the fringed buckskin outfit). The unnamed hero's horse has a name (Keg-of-Nails) that does not appear in the key character databases. Whatever its title, the page is a marvel of kinetic energy, built around a desperate chase to halt a runaway buckboard. Ink over graphite on Bristol board. Image area, 16" x 23". Excellent condition.
