Description

Russ Heath and Al Vey Legend #4 Story Page 15 Original Art (DC Comics/WildStorm, 2005). Heath himself might have borne the title of this episode -- "A Man among Men" -- in the collaborative epic about a superhuman outsider. The great artist is captured here in a late-in-life prime of storytelling ability, having mastered all genres from combat drama to action-adventure to Westerns to humor. Heath and writer Howard Chaykin are riffing here upon Philip Wylie's 1930 novel Gladiator, which is known to have influenced the groundbreaking team of Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster in their Depression-era development of the Superman comics feature. Ink over graphite on Bristol board. Image area, 9" x 14". Excellent condition.
