Description

Rory Hayes "Dick Pooh in the Case of Ducky Doodle's Hideout" Page 1 Original Art (c. 1973). Here is a very rare piece of comix art by a true original, the late Rory Hayes. Rory had a somewhat troubled youth, and lived in a world where his stuffed teddy bear dolls acted out parts in imagined horror movies. He was an avid fan of the Dick Tracy comic strip, and naturally, he included a teddy bear detective in his cast of characters, which he eventually drew into a series of home-made comic books. He was discovered by Underground patron of the arts, Gary Arlington, who gave him a job in his comic book shop, and published the first of his twisted comic art. Very few of his pages have survived, even though he was published in many major titles, like Bijou Funnies; the few pages that are out there rarely change hands. This page is in ink on paper, with an image area of approximately 6.75" x 8.25", and has been archivally taped from behind to a 11.75" x 13.5" mat. It's in Excellent condition
