Robert Crumb Motor City Comics #2 "Lenore Goldberg" Page 10 Original Art (Rip Off Press, 1970). "Look Ma, a nakid gurl!" Only Robert Crumb would have had the audacity to have his main character escape from the clutches of evil cops by tearing herself out of her clothing, and go running through the city streets in the altogether -- but that's what makes Underground Comix so much fun, right? In this well-drawn page, feminist warrior Lenore makes good her escape in the parking lot of a Safeway supermarket, as bullets whiz her shapely nude body. It's from part two of one of Crumb's most overtly late-sixties era politically charged stories, and this action-packed page is a real beauty. It's done in Crumb's usual mechanical pen style, and, unlike most of his later work, there's nary a trace of white-out or any other kind of art correction -- this is from Crumb's "bash-'em-out" period, a little cruder than his elegant modern-era output, but a lot more fun. The image area measures approximately 8" x 12", and there are traces of hand-lettering erased on the back of the bristol (possibly notes for the next page). There's also traces of white tape and a few stains on the back, but the artwork is in Excellent condition. And yes, that does appear to be a young Bobby Crumb in that second panel, glasses, burr haircut and all. For the advanced Crumb collector, this one has it all!
