    Description

Robert Crumb Cavalier "Fritz The No Good" Page 1 Original Art (1968). A weary-looking Fritz awaits a visit with his new welfare case worker, in this page from the last major Fritz story until Crumb decided to "kill off" the character in 1972's "Fritz the Cat, Superstar." This story was later included in Ballantine's oversized 1969 book, R. Crumb's Fritz the Cat 3 Big Stories. Fritz had been featured in some of Crumb's earliest comic stories, done during childhood. Crumb soured on his character, which had been inspired by a family pet, when Hollywood hotshots "took over" the property for an ill-advised animated feature film in '72. The art, done in ink on bristol, has an image area of approximately 9.5" x 12.25", and has been professionally matted and framed to an overall size of 17.5" x 20.5". Written in pencil above the top panel is the inscription, "Fritz turns out to be a bad egg." Indeed! In Very Good condition, with minor soiling along the outer border areas.
