    Description

Neal Adams Green Lantern #85 Story Page 12 Original Art (DC, 1971). One of the most dramatic DC story arcs of the Bronze Age tackled the problem of narcotics head-on by revealing that one of their own characters had become a junkie in "Snowbirds Don't Fly". It wouldn't have seemed possible just a few years before this issue that Green Arrow's sidekick Speedy would ever think of shooting up, let alone become an addict. In this page, a few of Speedy's "friends" sit around waiting for a fix, while describing how racial slurs and inequalities led them down this dark path to destruction. It's a bone-chilling moment, especially for a form of entertainment still thought of by the public at large as for children only. Adams' dynamic artwork and Denny O'Neil's hard-hitting GL/GA stories helped change DC to a company more in touch with the times, appealing more to older readers than ever before. The art is in ink over graphite with whiteout on Bristol board, with a photo print as the first panel. The page has an image area of 10" x 15" and is in Good condition, with the upper border area nearly torn off and a rubber cement stain in the last panel, from a missing word balloon correction. It's a very powerful page from an incredibly important issue; things would never be quite the same after this!
