Neal Adams and Bernie Wrightson Green Lantern #84 "Peril in Plastic" Page 9 Original Art (DC, 1971). As the Silver Age of Comics became the Bronze Age, few can argue that the landmark Green Lantern series co-starring a revitalized Green Arrow played a big part in changing the look, and the landscape of the superhero genre. Denny O'Neil's socially-relevant scripts, combined with the taut, dynamic artwork of Neal Adams (not to mention the shadow-soaked inking of Bernie Wrightson in this issue) set the stage for a more-realistic comic book experience, one that wasn't afraid to tackle tough subjects like pollution, poverty, racism, and drug abuse head on. In this fan-fave yarn, while Carol Ferris is in Piper's Dell, the sea wall protecting the town begins to give way, so Hal responds as Green Lantern. After saving the town, GL is given a tour of the plastic factory. Weakened by gas emitted by the plastic pins produced there, he is unable to fight back, so he sends his ring to Green Arrow. This page features the memorable "Ka-loooota" sound effect sequence, a reference to artist Michael W. Kaluta, and the fellow in the suit certainly bears a resemblance to Carmine Infantino. This DC classic has an image area of 10" x 15", and aside from light overall paper aging, and closely trimmed margins, it's in Excellent condition.
