    Description

Mike Roy The Unseen #13 Pre-Code Horror Story Page 6 Original Art (Standard/Pines Comics, 1954). A classic of the floating-eyeball school of creepy art, the page closes a story called "Scream in the Night." Cover-dated 1954, the book actually was issued in late 1953, shortly before the censorious Code kicked in to spoil the fun for many horror fans. Standard delighted in baiting the censors with lurid, off-the-wall stories and art to match. Usually a moral lesson, but not without a measure of full-bore creepiness. The page depicts the death of a sadistic trucker who has enjoyed crushing stray animals. Tough-guy art of a high order, with heavy-duty brush-line weight and a precipitous momentum. Ink over graphite on Bristol board, with an image area of 12" x 18". Panel 6 contains knife-blade scratching to create white highlights. Excellent condition, with minimal toning.
