DescriptionMarie Severin, Dan Adkins, and Roger Brand Tales to Astonish #100 Story Page 16 Sub-Mariner and Hulk Original Art (Marvel, 1968). Hulk versus Sub-Mariner battles are right up there with Hulk/Thing battles as far as titanic tussles go down in the Marvel Universe. From their earliest clashes in Avengers #3 to their tumultuous team-ups in the Defenders, the two main characters in this normally split series have always gotten along like oil and water. This page was part of the book-length epic 22-page battle royale -- one of the era's most fondly remembered classics that pitted Namor against a Hulk that was mind-controlled by the Puppet Master. Marie Severin served up a fine page of action, and this is one of the best fight scenes in the book. The majority of the pages from this issue remain in a private collection, so examples have always been very scarce! The page is produced in ink over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 10" x 15", with a Marie Severin signature in the lower margin. The page is slightly tanned, and production hole-punched in the top and bottom margins, with a bit of text-correction taped in on panel three. There is also some whiteout art correction. Overall in Very Good condition.
