    Description

Ken Battefield (attributed) Fight Comics #74 Whole Page 28 Original Art (Fiction House, 1951). This venerable Golden Age title had only a dozen more issues to run, but the Iger Studio was still cranking out the high-adventure thrills in ferocious style. This fifth page of a tale from the Risks, Unlimited sub-series of stories contains enough mayhem for an entire yarn. Battefield is the likeliest name to whom to ascribe the vivid, un-bylined artwork, but the touch of Bob Webb (Iger's de facto art director) is evident in the faces and the angular page composition. Ink over graphite on Bristol board. Image area, 12.5" x 18.25". Light toning, whiteout corrections, and one partially obscured dialogue balloon (lower left). Very Good condition.

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
