DescriptionJohn Romita Sr. and Jim Mooney Spectacular Spider-Man Magazine #1 and Amazing Spider-Man #116 Page 8 Original Art (Marvel, 1968/1973). That bottom left panel is simply iconic! In 1968, Marvel launched Spidey's second concurrent title, the Spectacular Spider-Man Magazine. That first issue featured "Lo, This Monster", who was referred to as Man Monster in the story. Five years later, Marvel took that story, split it into three issues of Amazing Spider-Man (#116-118), and made several art and text alterations to fit it into the on-going soap opera of Peter Parker's then-current life. The villain seen in panel 1 was also renamed "The Smasher" later in the reprinted version. This particular page is spectacular in its own right. It has fewer alterations than most of the pages in the reprinted story... the bottom image area was extended with a bit more original art, and eyes were added to Spidey's mask (as he was wearing a children's Halloween mask in the then-current story line). A hum-dinger of a page created in ink with whiteout art additions over blue pencil on Bristol board with an image area of 10.5" x 15.75". Very minor production oil stain in the extreme bottom margin, some production tape in the top margin, and overall toning. Otherwise, this is in Excellent condition.
