John Byrne and Terry Austin X-Men #137 "The Fate of Phoenix!" Story Page 19 Original Art (Marvel, 1980). From what is absolutely one of the most influential stories from the Modern Age of Marvel Comics, this tragic tale changed the team fundamentally from this point onward. The page spotlights Storm, but also features Phoenix (Jean Grey/Marvel Girl), Cyclops, Nightcrawler, and the Angel. They are in battle against the Shi'ar Imperial Guard, who were originally a tribute to DC's Legion of Super-Heroes. On this page you can see Starbolt (Sun Boy), Manta (Dawnstar), Smasher (Ultra Boy), and Oracle (Saturn Girl). The page was produced in ink over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 10" x 15". It is signed in the bottom margin by the legendary team of writer Chris Claremont, artist John Byrne, and inker Terry Austin. The page is tanned with a corner trimmed, and a minor corner fold in the bottom right. The Austin signature has a light fade in the middle where it was signed over a bit of production tape residue. A great looking page from a fantastically important issue, overall in Very Good condition.
