John Byrne and Terry Austin X-Men #134 Page 26 Original Art (Marvel, 1980). Triple drama: "Something's wrong" with Jean Grey, and (as we will find out in mere pages) it's because she's beginning to transform into Dark Phoenix; also, the team has to flee before the police move in; and that blackguard Sebastian Shaw is already planning his next offensive. Writer Chris Claremont was unrelenting when it came to putting the X-Men in dramatic situations! This page has the whole team in a couple of different panels, in and near the Hellfire Club's spectacular mansion. And Austin's meticulous inking, already impressive when looking at the comic, is even more amazing with the art in-hand. Claremont told us in an interview, "What we had fun doing is telling a multilevel story. You can read it as a simple adventure, you can read it as a complex character story, everything, And the art at its best tended to embody that. "The art is signed by Claremont in the top margin. It's ink over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 10" x 15". Clipped corners. Condition is Excellent. From the Chris Claremont Collection.
