    Description

Joe Shuster and Marvin Stein - Funnyman #2, page 27 Original Art (Magazine Enterprises, 1948). Funnyman was the last collaboration between Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, produced during the heated days when two were suing DC Comics over the rights to Superman; DC, in turn, froze them out of the creative process entirely. Funnyman was a TV comedian who, through a series of bizarre circumstances, became a clownish superhero, defeating villains with pies to the face and exploding cigars. Funnyman's unique blend of comedy and superheroics never quite caught on with the public, and the book folded after six issues. The finished art on the front of the page is probably the work of Marvin Stein, working from Joe Shuster's penciled sketches and page layouts which are found on the reverse side of this page. In fact, the back of this page may give an insight into how the Joe Shuster studio did its work on Superman. The image area of the page measures 12.5" x 18" and the art is in Very Good condition with some creasing at the corners and overall edge wear.
