DescriptionJoe Kubert Our Army at War #33 Story Page 3 Original Art (DC Comics, 1955). The prolific and versatile Kubert is at his cinematic best on this vividly designed composition from the six-page story called "Combat Courier." Three heavy-artillery panels at top play out like movie storyboards, followed by four deep vertical panels, with extreme high- and low-angle shots building to an intense close-up of the endangered title character. Sound-effects lettering, superimposed over the borders, lends a 3-D-like effect. A tantalizing anonymous note on reverse suggests, or guesses at, the participation of Steve Ditko, but the official record (as maintained by editor Julius Schwartz) ascribes the art entirely to Kubert. Ink over graphite on Bristol board. Image area, 13" x 19". Moderate age-toning; marginal staining at upper left. Very Good condition. From the Ethan Roberts Estate Collection.
