Description

Jim Starlin and Dave Cockrum Captain Marvel #26 Page 18 Original Art (Marvel, 1973). The Kree-born Captain Mar-Vell attacks the Fantastic Four's own Thing, who he thinks is a Skrull imposter. Foreshadowing of the 2008 Marvel event Secret Invasion? Perhaps! Jim Starlin's epic work on this title laid the groundwork for many stories to spin out of it. Jim Starlin signed this "Mar-Vellous" half-splash page in the lower margin. It is produced in ink over blue pencil on Bristol board with an image area of 10" x 15". The page is slightly tanned with production oil stains in the bottom panel, and tape residue in the left margin, otherwise in Very Good condition. Be sure to look for the previous consecutive page of this story in the previous lot!

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
