Description

Jim Mooney and Ray Burnley (attributed) Batman #56 "A Greater Detective Than Batman" Page Original Art Group (DC, 1949). From the Golden Age of comics comes pages 3-9 (the first two and last pages of the yarn are missing) from this partial tale of the Dark Knight and the Boy Wonder, courtesy of writer Bill Finger and penciler Jim Mooney, with inks (probably) provided by Ray Burnley. Typical of Finger-penned stories, this one features a huge, working prop in the storyline; this time around it's a gigantic cash register, complete with moving keys and a sliding cash drawer. The art has been drawn on sheets of Bristol, each with an image area measuring approximately 13" x 18". All pages show minor wear, but overall are in Excellent condition, with no missing stats or major soiling evident. Page four has been signed by Mooney. According to collecting lore, during the 1940s, it was DC's usual practice to destroy original art, which makes these seven pages a scarce find, indeed.
