DescriptionJack Sparling, Edd Ashe, and Others True Comics #75 Partial Stories Lot of 7 Pages (Parents' Magazine Press, 1949). Who was Floyd Gibbons? This fragmentary story, "King of Reporters," answers the question in five pages of rip-snorting action, tracing Gibbons' adventures as a combat journalist during World War I. By the time this comic appeared, Gibbons (1887-39) also had become a famous broadcaster and moviemaker, responsible for such thrillers as 1937's Attic of Terror. The unbilled artist shows a keen eye for danger and momentum. Additional pages here include Sparling's splash for a Special Agent of the FBI story, which also had appeared in Special Agent Comics; and a free-standing illustration (uncredited) from "Tips on Championship basketball." Ink over graphite on Bristol board. Collage effect on the "King of Reporters" splash. The image area measures 13" x 18". Moderate to pronounced toning and adhesive staining, and peeling on the collage. Good to Very Good condition.
