Jack Kirby, Vince Colletta, and Murphy Anderson Superman's Pal, Jimmy Olsen #148 Page 14 Original Art (DC, 1972). Jack Kirby's run on Jimmy Olsen's book is legendary. It is one of the first and best examples of the concept that "any character is good if you handle them right." When Kirby came to DC in the early '70s, he and DC decided he would take Jimmy's book as it had low sales. The idea was that he could do what he wants because sales were flat already. What he did was use it to introduce his entire Fourth World series that would become a cult favorite for decades to come. Some of his wildest concepts were introduced here, and DC is still mining that rich vein of creative genius to this day. Alas, this would be Kirby's last issue on this title. Of note, in spite of the idea that he could do what he wanted with the title, DC hedged their bets by having Murphy Anderson ink or redraw every Jimmy Olsen and Superman head in the entire book. So that big Jimmy face in panel 4 is Kirby with Anderson inks, likewise the Superman face in the last panel. Kirby signed in the last panel. Ink over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 10" x 15". Top and bottom edge production tape. Some corner wear and tanning, otherwise in Excellent condition.
