Jack Kirby and Mike Royer The Dingbats of Danger Street Unpublished Second Story Page 9 Original Art (DC Comics, c. 1975). Kirby had settled back in at DC amidst worshipful fanfare during the early 1970s -- but soon proved too cosmic a talent for the publisher to contain, with his complex Fourth World mythology and his drastic alterations to such corporate cash-cow characters as Superman. Kirby scaled things back with The Dingbats of Danger Street, a kid-gang feature in the vein of his 1940s titles Boy Commandos and The Newsboy Legion. DC's First Issue Special # 6 (1975) gave Dingbats a pilot run, but a sequel was orphaned. Kirby returned briefly to Marvel Comics, which he had ditched in 1970 to seek respect and recognition at DC. His teaming with Royer at DC gave Kirby one of his best-ever inkers. This ink/graphite-on-Bristol composition has an image area of 10" x 15", and it's in Excellent condition.
