Jack Jackson (as Jaxon) Skull #1 7-Page Partial Story Original Art (Rip Off Press, 1970). A fascinating sequence of large-scale Underground Comix pages. The origins of Jaxon's better-known tales of Southwestern historical lore (such as Comanche Moon and The Secret of San Saba) lie in the San Francisco Underground Comix scene of the earlier 1970s. This unnerving exploration of Mexican Indian mythology originated in Skull, one of the more visceral and artistic Underground horror titles. This selection contains Pages 2-8 of an eight-page tale of a professor who delves too deeply into the legend of Xipe Totec, an Aztec deity associated with the flaying of human bodies. Unusually constructed, in that Jaxon drew each panel separately, then pasted them into sequence, six panels to a page. Ink over graphite on Bristol board, with Zipatone shading film (varied textures) and painted white retouching. Collage effect in sixth panel of Page 2. The image area is 13.5" x 22.25". Moderate age-toning and adhesive staining. The pages are in Excellent condition. From the Eric Sack Collection.
