Description

Henry Sharp and Joe Giella Strange Adventures #55 Story Page 3 Original Art (DC Comics, 1955). A pivotal title in the emergence of the Silver Age of Comics -- begun in 1950 as a pre-Comics Code SF title, Strange Adventures adapted gracefully to the Code's censorship restrictions and established an imaginative attitude that would encourage the superhero revival of the midcentury. This delightful sequence depicts a series of apparent storms that prove to be the work of an alien movie studio -- using Earth as the setting of a disaster picture. Sharp would've made a dandy artist for the new-Flash breakthrough. Giella, of course, became pivotal to the fresh wave of costumed heroism that resulted. Ink over graphite on Bristol board. Image area, 13" x 19". Moderate toning. Excellent condition. From the Ethan Roberts Estate Collection.
