Description

Henry C. Kiefer Classics Illustrated #47: Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea Panel Page Original Art (Gilberton Publ., 1948). Veteran high-adventure artist Kiefer (a Fiction House standby) tackles Jules Verne's famous novel of science-fictional piracy, with virile results. Here, captives Ned Land and Prof. Aronnax plot an escape from the ruthless Capt. Nemo. The lettering and layouts bear the stylistic brand of the S.M. Iger Studio, which supplied freelance talent to both Classics Illustrated and the Fiction House titles. Ink over graphite on Bristol board, with painted white retouching. Image area, 13" x 18". Fragile page-stock shows conspicuous age-toning, cracked corners, and a few instances of marginal tearing. Good condition.
