Gil Kane and Murphy Anderson - Double-Page Spread from Green Lantern #74, page 18-19 (DC, 1970). Nowhere is Gil Kane's exponential growth as a comic book talent -- from a solid, journeyman artist into one of the legends of the field -- more obvious than in the pages of his long Silver Age run on Green Lantern. Kane not only designed the costume for this version of the Emerald Avenger, but by the time this issue was released, he had been drawing the Lantern's adventures for over a decade. In this spectacular two-page spread, Hal Jordan is temporarily down and out, while Star Sapphire squares off against the villainous Sinestro. All the hallmarks of Kane's work are evident, including the bold layouts (note how Star Sapphire's outstretched leg neatly bisects Sinestro, stylistically lessening his impact as a villain) and the low angles on the head shots that Gil was famous for. Beautifully complemented by Murphy Anderson's dynamic inks, this is Gil Kane at his finest. This two-page spread is in excellent condition, with moderate white-out overall, and has been professionally mounted on board and matted. A true gem for the Silver Age or Green Lantern collector, this is going to make some lucky bidder very happy. 21" x 17" overall.
