    Description

Gil Kane and John Romita Sr. Amazing Spider-Man #123 Gwen Stacy Funeral Page 5 Original Art (Marvel, 1973). In "Just a Man Called Cage," while Peter Parker and his friends attend Gwen Stacy's funeral, J. Jonah Jameson plans to hire Luke Cage, Power Man to bring in Spider-Man -- dead or alive. Offered here is a stunning half-page scene bringing closure to perhaps the most mournful moment in Marvel lore. The entire supporting cast of ASM mourns the near-unbearable loss of Gwen -- except for an obsessed JJJ who hatches his plot, inspired by a reading of his own copy of the Daily Bugle. This landmark page (a perfect companion piece to the cover art for issue #121 that we're offering in this same sale) has an image area of 10" x 15". Panels two and four are drawn on vellum (common for JR Sr. art of this era) that has been glued to the art board; otherwise, the art is in Excellent condition.
