Description

George Metzger Gothic Blimp Works #1 "Mal-Ig" Page 1 Original Art (EVO, 1969). Former Bay Area cartoonist George Metzger was, like many others in the Underground Comix "tribe," a fan of 1950s EC Comics, particularly the science-fiction titles. He produced several pages of an epic (and wordless) story, "Mal-Ig," for a sci-fi fanzine before submitting it to a new comic tabloid about to be published by the New York Underground paper East Village Other. Here's that first page, as seen in Gothic Blimp Works #1. The page was also used in Patrick Rosenkranz's excellent book Rebel Visions: The Underground Comix Revolution, on page 132. Art is in ink over graphite with Zipatone shading film on a piece of 17" x 22" illustration board; image size is approximately 14" x 19". A very historic page! Condition is Very Good, with handling/edge wear and mild toning.
