Description

Garry Leach Warrior Magazine #1 Marvelman aka Miracleman "A Dream of Flying" Title Page 2 Original Art (Quality, 1982). This is the second page of the first Alan Moore Marvelman story, and we hasten to note that the first page had no image of Marvelman on it -- so here is the one to have. U.S. readers did not discover this until Miracleman #1 (Eclipse 1985), and might not realize that "A Dream of Flying" was the first story, since the Eclipse book put some "prequel" material in front of it.
Here is a rare opportunity to purchase a historic piece of art from this legendary 1980s series. Marvelman was created in 1954 by writer-artist Mick Anglo for publisher L. Miller & Son. Originally a United Kingdom home-grown substitute for Captain Marvel, the series ran until 1963. The hero was revived in 1982 in a dark, post-modern deconstructionist series by writer Alan Moore. In his American reprints and story continuation, the character was renamed Miracleman to avoid trademark conflicts with Marvel Comics. A groundbreaking strip, and one of the stories that first introduced Alan Moore's talent for "retconning" superheroes, this evocative title page hails from the first installment of Moore's amazing revamping of the Marvelman mythos. Illustrated by the ultra-precisionist Garry Leach, this is certainly one of the high points of modern comics literature. Note that the piece is larger than the U.S. panel art of that era. Measuring approximately 21" x 14" overall, this "full-bleed" page was cut between panel tiers one and two; otherwise, it's in Excellent condition.
