Frank Miller and Klaus Janson Batman: The Dark Knight Returns #4 Batman Page 21 Original Art (DC, 1986). From the famed series that redefined the Batman franchise for the modern audience, here is an iconic page from what is universally acknowledged as one of the most important story arcs in modern comics. This is a brilliantly self-contained narrative that encapsulates the major themes and tensions from the Batman mythos -- it's certainly is one of the most impressive pages that we've offered, and with Batman, Robin (Carrie Kelly), Commissioner Gordon, and one of the "sons of Batman" all showcased, it would be hard to find a finer example. Panel eight, featuring Batman shattering a rifle, has proven so culturally resonant, it recently saw print again in Scott Thill's 2012 web-article for Underwired, "Why Batman Believes in Gun Control" (captioned: "Since 1940, guns have mostly been off-limits for Batman. And that should never change"). This Frank Miller masterwork has an image area of 11.5" x 17.75". Aside from the typical four tape residue stains in the borders, and glue staining in four panels where art correction stats had been glued over the original art (now revealed), the art is in Very Good condition. The four removed production photostats are also included with the lot.
