Frank Miller and Klaus Janson Batman: The Dark Knight Returns #3 page 24 Original Art (DC, 1986). Comic art collectors take note -- hailed as a comics masterpiece, The Dark Knight Returns was Frank Miller's re-invention of the legend of Batman. Pages from this yarn rarely surface, and when they do, they command a premium price. The story remains an undisputed classic -- one of the most influential stories ever told in comics, cited by the filmmakers as an inspiration for the modern era's Batman movies.
Issue #3 was subtitled "Hunt the Dark Knight," and on this page Robin defies Batman's orders by taking the controls of the helicopter to rescue him. Meanwhile, the anti-Batman psychologist character, appearing with the Joker on David Letterman's show, meets his demise courtesy of the Joker's puppet.
This piece has an image area of 12" x 18". Note that there are some differences between the original art and the published version, as Miller reportedly took issue with some of the inking and made some changes on pasteovers that aren't included with this lot. Differences include the faces in panels 2, 4, and 5 and the positioning of the gun in panel 5. The page was cut between panel tiers two and three, and re-joined with tape on the back, and in front on the left and right borders; otherwise, the art is in Excellent condition.
