Frank Miller and Klaus Janson Batman: The Dark Knight Returns #1 Concluding Double-Page Spread 46 and 47 Original Art (DC, 1986). This astounding double-page spread, a real rarity in the marketplace, spotlighting the Batman and Two Face (Harvey Dent), marks the dramatic conclusion of the first issue as the Dark Knight feels reveals his profound empathy with his schizoaffective friend/foe and tries to comfort him as best he can. No story in the Batman mythos is more important than Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns. Released in 1986, this story was responsible for the rejuvenation of Batman as a dark character and for the comics industry as a whole. Many consider it the greatest Batman story ever told. When pages from this yarn surface, they command a premium price, as can be seen by the world-record price for any piece of comic art, set by the splash in one of our past auctions. The spread has an approximate combined image area of 24" x 18". The entire image of the bat face in panel eight of page 47 is a photostat, and the the lettering on both pages is done with pasted-on captions and word balloons; otherwise, the art is in Excellent condition. Inscribed and signed by Frank Miller in the lower borders of both pages.
