    Description

Ed Moore War Against Crime #1 Story Page 4 Original Art (EC Comics, 1948). EC-style horrors from the days before Tales from the Crypt: This seminal EC page derives from a true-crime case of the 1930s, altering the name of Texas serial killer Joe Ball but retaining his practice of feeding his victims to a pit-full of alligators. Here, the murderer's tormented sister contemplates suicide. Moore's crisp, dynamic brushwork anticipates such later EC-horror masters as Al Feldstein and Johnny Craig. Joe Ball's story would be told again (more factually) in "'Gator Bait," by Michael H. Price and Lamberto Alvarez, in issue #9 of Stephen R. Bissette's Taboo (1995). Ink over graphite on Bristol board. Image area, 10" x 15". Excellent condition.
