    Description

Dave Gibbons Doctor Who Weekly #3 (10-31-79) Story Page 3 Original Art (Marvel UK, 1979). Hold on to your jellybabies Whovians... because this stunning artwork is by Dave Gibbons of Watchman fame! The exciting story "Doctor Who and the Iron Legion (Part 3)" was written by Pat Mills and John Wagner. It brings the fourth Doctor (Tom Baker) to an alternate timeline where the Roman Empire is still in full swing! A nice bit of Who continuity is his references to "Abominable Snowmen... Autons... Axos..." in Panel 5. Created in ink over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 11.75" x 17.5". The page is numbered 13 for one of its various reprintings. (There were six.) Lightly toned and in Excellent condition. From the Ethan Roberts Estate Collection.

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
