    Description

Dan Barry (attributed) All Select Comics #2 Story Page 12 Sub-Mariner Original Art (Timely, 1943-44). Golden Age World War II-era Timely Comics original art is so rare that only a few known examples have ever come to light. This piece features one of Timely's marquee characters, Namor, the Sub-Mariner. Subby is not only considered comics' first anti-hero, he was part of comics' first cross-over story (with the original Human Torch), and would be revived (by the Silver Age Human Torch) to play a huge role in Marvel Comics' future.
Namor is all over the page in this war-time adventure of Marvel's Golden Age Prince of Atlantis, which featured saboteurs and sea-monsters. The last page of the 12-page story, it ran as page 53 in the issue. The backside of the Bristol board has a few small, very lightly penciled, rough sketches. The front side is rendered in ink over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 12.5" x 18.5". The board has a notch cut out of the top blank margin area, and some slight tape abrasion on the backside, and light overall handling wear. The image area is lightly toned, with some graphite smudging. In Very Good condition.
