Dan Adkins Eerie #10: "It!" Story Page 4 Original Art (Warren Publ., 1967). This splendid page captures Adkins at a peak of accomplishment -- working under the matched influences of master illustrator Wally Wood (whom Adkins served as an assistant and protègé) and writer Archie Goodwin (who tailored each of his stories to the strengths of a particular artist). Seldom has "the dark velvet emptiness" of deep space looked so desolate and forbidding as in the lower image, in which a ship's crewmen prepare to bring a ghastly creature aboard. Goodwin once told us he had drawn the basic idea from a famous movie, It! The Terror from beyond Space (1958), and then added original variations. Ink over graphite on Bristol board. Image area, 13.5" x 9.25". Faint toning. Excellent condition.
