    Description

Carmine Infantino and Joe Giella Detective Comic #327 First "New Look" Batman page 15 Original Art (DC,1964). Carmine Infantino's revolutionary art for "The Mystery of the Menacing Mask" is a landmark of Silver Age DC art. This killer page marks the first time the Gotham Guardian used a gun since the WWII-themed cover to Batman #15, and the first use in a story since issue #1 in 1940. Fans were outraged, and newly appointed editor Julius Schwartz learned a key ingredient of the character's ethos -- no guns. Despite Batman's immense popularity in the forties and fifties, the flagship title was actually in danger of being canceled. In desperation the title was turned over to famed DC editor Julius Schwartz, the man with the Silver Age touch. He brought in his ace art team of Carmine Infantino and Joe Giella to launch the revamped version of the Gotham Guardian which Schwartz dubbed the "New Look." The success of the "New Look" was instrumental with setting into a motion a chain of events that has continued to the current triumph of superheroes in the mass media and popular culture. ABC executive William Dozier was smitten by the "New Look" Batman comics, and they convinced him to launch the phenomenally successful Batman TV series starring Adam West. Ever since the success of that show, comic book characters have remained a staple for film and TV projects. This Silver Age show-stopper has an image area of 13" x 18", and the art is in Excellent condition.
