Bill Everett Strange Tales #150 Story Page 4 Original Art (Marvel, 1966). Dr. Strange and the Ancient One confront the Griffin! Here is Everett at a peak of visionary brilliance -- not only co-plotting the tale, but also illustrating the works with a brilliantly composed attack sequence. Note the bottom panel's image of the creature as it vanishes -- the ghostly faded image at right is a combination of India ink (undercoat) and an overlay of white watercolor, applied with an inking compass in radiating circles. Many another artist would have used negative (white) Zipatone to achieve such an effect, but this is Bill Everett, one of the first-generation inventors of heroic comics, and his dedication to the craft remains unsurpassed. Ink over graphite on Bristol board, with an image area of 12.75" x 18.74". Light toning, white-out lettering corrections, marginal editorial notes and markings, and adhesive staining at the bottom margin. In Excellent condition.
