Bernie Wrightson Eerie #58 "Pepper Lake Monster" Page 23 Original Art (Warren, 1974). The "Pepper Lake Monster" story was an early Eerie story for Wrightson and one that is remembered fondly by fans. This page is the Prologue for the story. And just as the lake hides a secret in the story, so too does this page hide a secret of its own! On the backside is an uncompleted pencil rough for a modern day Frankenstein story titled "This Unholy Creation". As it is introduced by Cousin Eerie, it was intended for this same issue. Just two issues later there was a story titled "The Unholy Creation" by Leopold Sanchez. Was Wrightson to do the story originally? Or did he supply layout help to Sanchez? We may never know. But we do know this is Wrightson artwork of Frankenstein's Monster nearly a decade before the publication of his famous work in the book by Marvel. The Pepper Lake side of the page is ink over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 12" x 17.5". Signed by Wrightson in the bottom margin. Slight tanning with some corner wear and creases. The page is overall in Excellent condition. From the Tom Tataranowicz Collection.
