    Description

Barry Windsor-Smith National Lampoon #26 May-1972 "Norman the Barbarian" Story Page 1 Original Art (National Lampoon Inc., 1972). A rip-roaring romp as Windsor-Smith produces a parody of his own work in the concurrently running Conan the Barbarian comic book. The gag here is that the barbarian is based on writer/journalist/activist Norman Mailer, and his sidekick was a poke at Jimmy Breslin. Another potential parody is that the young Amazon with the knife bears a bit of a resemblance to long-haired Roy Thomas, writer for Marvel's Conan series. This page was created in ink over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 10" x 14". Much of the text is stat paste-up that has discolored slightly, and the logo is held on with production tape. The bottom left panel has an original art correction section held on with production tape, and the page has handling wear in the margins. In Very Good condition.
