DescriptionBarry Smith Chamber of Darkness #4 Story Page 2 Conan Prototype Original Art (Marvel, 1970). It's easy to think this is a page from Conan the Barbarian #16, where this story was reprinted. However it first appeared in Chamber of Darkness #4 in April of 1970, which predated the release of Conan #1 in October of 1970. The story by Roy Thomas and Barry Windsor-Smith features a Conan-esque prototype character named Starr the Slayer. Note the horned helmet! The story concerned this fictitious character coming to life in the 1970s intent on slaying his creator, a writer named Len Carson (a Lin Carter reference, perhaps?). The page is created in ink and Zipatone over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 10" x 15". It has been trimmed to the image area and affixed to another sheet of Bristol board for the reprint in 1972. There is glue residue and production tape, along with toning. Overall, in Very Good condition.
