Barry Smith and Neal Adams - Unpublished Barbarian Page Original Art (Marvel, circa 1970). Two of the biggest names ever to draw the comic book adventures of Robert E. Howard's Conan joined forces to produce this magnificent page, and we believe it was before Smith had even been selected as the initial Conan artist, around the time of the "Starr the Slayer" story that appeared in Chamber of Darkness #4, about half a year before Conan #1. Roy Thomas tells us he recalls Smith doing other sword-and-sorcery drawings around that time, though he doesn't think this piece was a tryout for the later job. Here, the long-haired hero faces a flock of mighty Pteranodons, armed only with a sword. The art was penciled by Smith and inked by Adams with Zipatone shading film on a sheet of Bristol board; it has an approximate image area of 10" x 15". Signed at the bottom edge by both artists. In Very Good condition with some handling wear in the outer borders. A rough page layout in graphite is on the reverse.
