Description

Arthur Peddy (attributed) and Bernard Sachs (attributed) All-American Comics Unpublished Page Doctor Mid-Nite Original Art (DC Comics, 1948-49). Orphaned when the bottom fell out of the superhero-comics business, post-WWII, this spirited page represents a story that had been slated for the abandoned All-American Comics #105 (#102 was the last published issue). It might also have become a lost story, if a group of DC Comics interns during the 1960s had not defied orders to destroy an inventory of lapsed funnybook art. (Assigned to "cut up the stories," they sliced many pages into coherent strips, for re-assembly later.) This one is a dandy, featuring Dr. Mid-Nite playing cowhand in the midst of a stampede. His flying leap in the third panel is a wonder to behold. The good Doctor has appeared recently on TV's Legends of Tomorrow. Ink over graphite on Bristol board. Image area, 13" x 17.5". Reassembled with production tape on reverse. Light toning. Excellent condition. From the Ethan Roberts Estate Collection.
