Alex Toth Personal Love #11 "I Struck It Rich" page 1 Original Art (Eastern Color, 1951). Alex Toth practically re-invented the art of romance comics in the fifties, and this gorgeous "twice-up" page features a character, Roger Hayden Jr., who's a dead ringer for movie star Errol Flynn -- a Toth favorite. This page (as well as another in this auction) was given to former comic book artist Howard O'Donnell by Frank Frazetta in 1958. One day O'Donnell was visiting Frazetta in his Brooklyn apartment. Frazetta asked O'Donnell if he'd like any original art. Rather than thinking Frazetta meant his own work, O'Donnell chimed in with his favorite artist -- Alex Toth. As luck would have it, Frazetta and Toth were both working for Standard Comics in the early 1950s and Frazetta happened to have the splash and last page of this romance story, which he gave to O'Donnell, who has had it ever since. This sleek page has an image area of 12" x 18.5". There is a glue stain over a line of lettering at the top of the page and a one-inch tear in the lower right border; otherwise, the art is in Very Good condition.
