Description

Original Art - Magic: The Gathering: Limited Edition (Alpha) "Demonic Tutor" Card Painting by Douglas Shuler (Wizards of the Coast, 1993). An opportunity to own the original art for the iconic "Demonic Tutor" from the first Magic: The Gathering set ever printed, the Alpha Edition. Not only is this the first depiction of one of the best uncommon cards ever made, but it's also one of the most iconic cards Wizards of the Coast has ever printed. This piece was created by Douglas Shuler when Wizards of the Coast was known as Garfield Games. Richard Garfield and his team needed a piece of art depicting a dark tutor and this is what was created. This specific card art was used for the Alpha, Beta, Unlimited, and Revised editions. This card was so powerful that Wizards of the Coast had to restrict the card to 1 copy per deck instead of the usual 4 per deck. This is 1 of only 50 cards currently on the Vintage format restricted list alongside the power 9, and is 1 of only 16 original cards from the Alpha Edition that is on the Restricted list. An absolute grail piece of historically important and significant card artwork from Magic: The Gathering. One of 95 pieces of art used for an uncommon card in Magic the Gatherings first release Alpha Edition. Shuler has worked in the game and entertainment industry for over 30 years on projects from the Lost Worlds and BattleTech combat books to work for Lucasfilms and Paramount Pictures. Created in acrylic on illustration board with an image area of 6.75" x 5.75". It is sealed in an 11.75" x 10" mat. In Excellent condition. From the Len Osborne MTG Collection.

More Information: EDIT: Emphasized that this is original art.
