Original Animation Art for Captain America (Grantray-Lawrence, 1966). Any comics fan over the age of 35 should remember those stirring opening words, "When Captain America throws his mighty shield..." They introduced Simon and Kirby's great WWII hero to a new generation of TV viewers on the "Marvel Superheroes" show, syndicated during the height of Marvelmania in the mid-1960s. the show used a very limited animation process, with images taken almost directly from then-current comics. Consequently, actual cels from this series are exceptionally rare. The cel presented here is done on an acetate sheet that measures approximately 10.75" x 8.5", with an image area of approximately 7" x 5", and has been placed on a light yellow background. This is a great image of Cap from the heyday of Marvel's Silver Age.
