Description

David Wright Girl with Parasol Painting Preliminary Original Art (c. 1960). The only thing lovelier than the blossoming blooms in this peaceful park is the lovely lady lounging under her parasol within it. According to Sirens by Terry Parker (Page 182), this piece is believed to be a preliminary version of Girl with Parasol, Smoking, another of Wright's paintings also available in this sale, which features a nearly identical composition -- except the lady is shown holding a cigarette and the color palette is slightly altered. While this is presumed to be a prelim, it is signed with Wright's commercial signature in the lower left and appears very nearly finished. Rendered in gouache over graphite on illustration board with an edge-to-edge image area of 14.5" x 16.75". There is wear and spots of paint loss to the corners and edges, along with creasing and areas of scuffing. In Very Good condition.
