    Description

David A. Cherry - Mermaid Painting Original Art (1987). A mermaid, deep in thought, fans her tail as she muses. David Cherry, brother of SF writer C. J. Cherryh, received his first paperback cover assignment in 1983. In 1986 David's art won two of the Association of Science Fiction and Fantasy Artists' Chesley Awards. In 1987, the Donning Company published a monograph of his work, Imagination: The Art and Technique of David A. Cherry. David's acrylic on board painting has an image area of 4.5" x 6.5", and is in Excellent condition. From the collection of Richard and Wendy Pini. Richard says: "For four years in the 1980s I was president of the Association of Science Fiction/Fantasy Artists (ASFA), and I got to know many very fine illustrators as a result. I knew that C.J. Cherryh was a well-known fantasy writer, but I had no idea her brother was so superb an artist! (He changed his last name's spelling to avoid confusion with his sister.) The detail work in this little gem is exquisite, and the mermaid's gaze is hypnotic."
