Description
Carl Barks Happy Hour Scrooge McDuck Oil Painting Original Art (c. 1996). We believe this to be the first time this image has ever seen print. The piece's owner, Kerby Confer, tells us, "It was commissioned by me and delivered to me personally by Carl at his 95th birthday party at Diamond Comics in 1996. So it was painted in 95-96 but finished in 96. I always loved what Carl told me as we looked at the painting together, 'You know Scrooge is a teetotaler so that is cranberry juice in the glass.' Also since I had the edition number #77 in all my lithos, Carl had disguised my 'lucky 77' into the gold bars in the foreground. See if you can find it!"The composition is similar to A Binful of Fun, though it's worth noting that Scrooge's eyes are wide open here, giving him a more joyous expression than he had on Binful. It's also worth noting that Donald and the nephews are waving goodbye in the background, fitting for one of the last Duck paintings Barks ever did.
The image area of this landmark, unnumbered piece measures 11" x 14", and it has been framed to an overall size of 17" x 20". The art is in Excellent condition. Signed by Carl Barks at the lower right. From the Kerby Confer Collection.
