Description

Carl Barks Halloween in Duckburg Oil Painting Original Art (1973). The impressive size of this piece sets it apart -- the image area measures 24" x 18", and it has been framed to an overall size of 36" x 30".
This museum-worthy piece even crossed over to "highbrow" art when it was featured in the traveling fine art exhibition K. Haring, A. Warhol, and W. Disney in 1991-1992. The exhibition label for the show is found on the reverse of the work.
Bewitching and "spook-tacular," this painting spotlighting Witch Hazel in her element, was based on the cover of the first issue of Donald Duck (#26), which in turn was based on the Disney short "Trick or Treat." As the catalog of the above mentioned exhibition noted, "the lighting is natural, the perspective exact, and every mischievous detail of the monsters is anatomically credible."
This painting was used to create the nineteenth Carl Barks lithograph in the Another Rainbow series.
The piece is featured on page 188 (color plate #59) of The Fine Art of Walt Disney's Donald Duck and as color plate #67 in Keith Haring, Andy Warhol, and Walt Disney. This oil on board sensation has been indexed by Barks scholars as painting #70L. The art is in Excellent condition, and signed by Carl Barks at the lower right. From the Kerby Confer Collection.
