Description

Carl Barks Golden Helmet Painting CB-OIL 35 Original Art (1972). Carl Barks liked his cover for Four Color #408 ("Donald Duck and the Golden Helmet) so much that he produced three paintings of it from 1971-72. This is the third such painting, and it is rich with that Barks magic! The "Good Duck Artist" had an incredible ability to mix charming expressions and characters with exciting situations and stories. It was adventures such as these that eventually gave us DuckTales. Here, Donald, Huey, Dewey, and Louie are crafted in oil on 16" x 20" pressboard. Signed in the lower left, it also bears a Walt Disney Productions stamp in the lower right. Barks was always very careful to mark his Disney work appropriately. There are some slight abrasions in the edges from a previous frame job, but this affects only the outermost quarter-inch of the painting. Otherwise, the art is in Excellent condition.
Amazingly, on the backside is the original bill of sale from 1972, in Carl Barks' own handwriting. The piece is identified by Barks as "#20 -72 'Golden Helmet', and sold for $150.00.
Like the long lost treasures of the Vikings, this incredible piece is likely to disappear into a private collection for a long time.
