Description

Bernie Wrightson The Edgar Allan Poe Portfolio "Descent into the Maelstrom" Painting Original Art (Christopher Enterprises, 1976). In 1976, the Master of the Macabre, Bernie Wrightson, produced a series of paintings for a limited edition portfolio which brought to life characters from Edgar Allan Poe's writings.
"It may look like boasting - but what I tell you is truth - I began to reflect how magnificent a thing it was to die in such a manner, and how foolish it was in me to think of so paltry a consideration as my own individual life, in view of so wonderful a manifestation of God's power." -- Edgar Allen Poe.
Best known for his frightful illustrations and as the co-creator of Swamp Thing, Wrightson highlights the ominous emotions of Poe's Descent into the Maelstrom with dark accents surrounding the man who attempts to avoid his own fall into the whirlpool. Truly unlike Wrightson's normal, chilling pieces, which portray discomfort with ghouls and monsters. Acrylic on stretched canvas with an edge-to-edge image area of 22" x 28". Signed, and in Excellent condition.
